Yes. Eating is one of life's greatest pleasures and scientific evidence shows that after menopause women find it hard to metabolise glucose and are more likely to choose sugar-rich foods. Making the right daily food choices also helps to combat stress which often makes menopausal symptoms worse.
No. But many clients come to the Change Haven, saying they are eating the same foods they always have but feel awful and are putting on weight. Sharing what and how we eat (not by going on a restrictive diet!) can transform menopausal symptoms. We look at simple and delicious swaps you can introduce daily - by increasing plant-based foods, fibre, and reducing ultra-processed carbohydrates.
That's okay. I would suggest you do what you can. You will feel and see results after a few days, so we will work together to commit to a realistic goal for you. More often than not, I've seen clients who want to keep going because they start to feel great with the right support and encouragement!
Yes, I offer vegetarian meal plans. If you have a particular medical condition, I can suggest alternative recipes and invite you to share the plan with your medical practitioner before you shop and start the programme.
The Change Haven approach is a collaboration. I want to encourage and inspire clients by sharing my experience - rather than telling you what to do! We will brainstorm and create a plan. I will offer suggestions and help you stay accountable. It requires commitment and motivation - but in positive ways to help you support your body.
Let's keep things real! Life is busy and by midlife, I'm pretty sure you know how to cook and what foods you like. You probably also eat healthily most of the time and realise when you don't that you start to feel sluggish, and moody, and then think about cutting back.
During perimenopause, I decided to learn more about my nutrition - and thought of it as learning about a new skill. I don't master something overnight!! It takes practice and there isn't a one-size fits all plan.
At the Change Haven, I won't make you feel guilty for making 'bad' food choices or insist on following a strict new-fangled diet. I want you to nourish your body and I will offer you support and help every step of the way. I want to give you the confidence and head space to make small, sensible changes that will become a permanent fixture on your plate and in your life!
